Brethren, it finally arrived and what an event it was! A feast of musical talents that was, indeed, a cornucopia of song & instruments that had everyone wanting more, I can say our ears were truly blessed! The Musical Evening took place on Saturday 29th November at Saxon Hall in the presence of the PGM R.W. Bro. John Finlay and accompanied by APGM’s Geoff Newman & Rob Sandy. I haven’t forgotten our Fundraiser-in-Chief, Festival2030 Chairman V.W. Bro. Richard Goodwin although he did go missing for a while….more of that to come!
Our MC for the evening was Roger Davies and in his inimitable style kept us informed with eloquence punctuated with humour & good cheer as he introduced us to the Thundersley Brass Band & their Musical Director Melvin White. What a treat they were Brethren, from Star Wars to the Lion King and all musical stops in-between we were entertained, no, bedazzled by their style, grace and musical storytelling as they laid out before us their talents in style. A level of talents that has risen to the pinnacle of their art, Brethren, we can all see why! As if we were not spoilt enough, Roger introduced the wonderful vocal talents of Joe Palmer; effortlessly gliding through a musical journey from the Ratpack to Les Mis, a mesmerising talent that has graced Las Vegas, no surprises to any of us, none whatsoever Brethren, if you were there, you knew! And then, came the interval. As if the first half had been such a musical festival, over the buffet (excellent as it was, I have to say) we were serenaded, our musical senses cosseted by the sensational Harp playing of Louise O’Connor, simply beautiful. |

Recalled for the second half by the Hunting Horn we continued our musical journey with both Joe and the Thundersley Brass Band taking us further on our musical journey, even to the strains of the Superman theme, speaking of which, did I mention our Fundraiser-in-Chief went missing for a while?
You will see in the picture above that I found him, masquerading as a cornet player in amongst the Thundersley Brass Band, ever attempting to find more creative ways of raising funds for those in need, is there any lengths he will stop at to raise money for those in desperate need Brethren? I sincerely hope not, although his cheeky grin when I found him in the throes of his fiendish plan tells me there’s more to come….. A huge thank you goes to Roger Davies for organising the event, to the delightful Ladies that looked after the Tombola prizes and to everyone that attended and made this an event to remember, the voices that cannot be heard, those that will benefit from your generosity, resound loudly in our hearts. |
